FAQ
Question: Do I need to insure my child if they are away at college and have no car?
Answer: Yes, as long as they are licensed to drive but we add them as a "distant student" which reduces the premium by about 70% compared to rating them as being home. They can then come home and drive without concern and also can drive a friend's car (all of this assuming they are with a preferred insurance company) and you, as the parent, can rest assured that your liability concerns are addressed.
Question: Should I put my dependent child on their own separate auto insurance policy to protect our policy if they have driving issues?
Answer: Generally, no because as long as they are financially dependent on you (even you claiming them on taxes even if away at college) then you are liable for them and could be brought into any lawsuit that they instigate due to their driving.
Question: Can I insure a car that is titled to my company AND driven by my employees on my personal auto insurance policy?
Answer: No, because generally personal auto insurance does not want to cover vehicles driven by anyone except immediately family members living in the same household.
![]() | What do I do if I have a claim? Answer: Do what is necessary to protect your property from further damage be it a leak in the roof, broken pipe, fire, etc. Save all receipts and report the claim as soon as possible. It is okay if that happens the next BUSINESS day.
Auto Accident: NEVER ADMIT FAULT. Exchange information like driver's license numbers, phone numbers, take photos of the damage (if possible), get insurance information from the other party. |
